If this has to be the one airport I go to only to leave behind again and again, at least there is a Japanese noodle shop in the United terminal where I can eat somewhat decent noodles of sadness, and a dimsum booth elsewhere when that doesn’t cut it.
Also. Damn, I was not ready to leave yet. Already missing Ben and Makana, and the ever-lovely [b.] Augh.
!! The 1! Just a few miles south of SF…
“I’m just sittin’ on the dock of the Bay, watching planes come my way/I’m just sittin’ on the dock of the Bay, wastin’ time”
Didn’t want to walk our favorite planewatching park/pier/spot alone, so I took a picture of it instead. (Also shown, our favorite restaurant in the area - Mmm.)
Also, Ben tells me I’m on a 747 today - Woo! Can’t wait til I get to the gate.
And by here, I mean SFO, but.
This place already holds so many good memories for me - Spring breaks, weekend trips, stopovers after Japan; lunch at Google HQ, getting meta at Facebook, road trips down the coast, late nights making lemonade in the backyard, otters at Monterey… Ben has done an amazing job of making me fall in love with this place [and him] in such a short time.
Every time I land here, I can almost hear him geeking out about how it looks like you’re going in the water, but the runway comes up to meet you at the last second; I stick my face to airplane windows to catch last glimpses of his old office (now Virgin America’s) and the Apple campus, the only two buildings here I can recognize from the air. But nostalgia aside it really is beautiful, especially at night.
SFO can be unbelievably lonely without him [see: this] but now that we’ve pretty much walked through every part of every terminal here, I try to let myself be comforted by each memory’s presence… and then pay for it later (aka now) with some intense nostalgia-turned-insomnia.
TL;DR - I just saw him on Sunday, but fuck I miss him and being at SFO isn’t helping. Call me a whambulance.
